Yaak Volunteer Fire Department

Nearly in the evening on February 14, 2008 the Yaak Fire Service Area lost their main station to fire. The building was fully involved on their arrival and was a total loss. The building was owned by Lincoln County and was insured although the contents of the building were not insured. No one on the crew was injured and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Yaak has an additional building next door that houses the remaining two of their response units which enabled them to fight the fire in a defensive mode. Lost in the fire was an older model Type VI Engine, most of their PPE, miscellaneous firefighting and EMS equipment, office equipment, fire department records and training materials. In addition to housing the third response unit, the building served as their meeting and training room. The building next door, although newer and heated, has no plumbing installed as yet and has no provision for a built in meeting area. Separating the two buildings is a propane tank of approximately 1000 gallons. Their defensive efforts were successful in protecting the tank from becoming involved.
